Common mistakes to avoid

1. Cumulative discounts: two discounts of 20% and 10% don't equal 30%. The second discount applies to the already-discounted price: 100 → 80 → 72 (= -28%).
2. Discount on inflated price: some stores raise prices before sales to then apply a "discount" that brings it back to the original price. Always compare with historical price.
3. Percentage vs fixed discount: "€10 off" and "10% off" are different and depend on the base price. Always calculate the real savings value.
4. VAT and discount: in Italy the discount is applied to the taxable amount (price without VAT). The actual savings also include the VAT reduction.
