Common mistakes to avoid
- Characters vs bytes: a UTF-8 character can occupy 1-4 bytes. Length in characters and bytes is different, especially with emoji or non-Latin characters.
- Platform limits: Twitter (280 chars), meta description (~155 chars), SMS (160 chars) count differently. Check the specific limits of your target platform.
- Invisible characters: zero-width space, soft hyphen and other invisible characters are counted but not visible. Text might be longer than it appears.
- Line endings: \r\n (Windows) counts as 2 characters, \n (Linux) as 1. This can affect counts for precise limits.
